Camp 50 FAQ

  • What’s this all about?
With this year marking 50 years since stonewall, we wish to honor Marsha and Sylvia’s legacies for continued trans and queer resistance against systematic and institutional forces that are killing us; with two week long action camp during the last two weeks in May leading up to June — when D.C. has historically celebrated Pride. With priority focus to trans people of color, former and current sex workers. Camp50 is open to all Trans and Queer people with some workshops and trainings being limited to only Black and Brown Trans/Queer community members.

  • When is Camp?
Camp50 will begin May 19th (the day after Trans Pride) and will end on June 1st.

  • Additionally…
The Action Camp will span two weeks with participants having the option to select multiple courses/classes/curriculum/trainings/skillshares.  Some of these workshops will repeat to give the most amount of availability to people with scheduling conflicts, some courses may also be broken up in parts or sections; while others may be geared towards experience with beginners / 101s and more advance courses “Trainings for trainers”.

  • Two whole weeks tho?
Since we would like to cover courses or workshops ranging from dancing/choreography and modeling to direct action trainings involving tactics, and some of these will be broken up by different days or offer multiple times to attend; we are planning / scheduling for a full two weeks.

  • Will there be a way for others to plug into planning?
Yes, you can use this form to:

    • Join the core planning group,
    • Submit a workshop, course, skillshare, training or an event that makes sense to include in our overall calendar (Fundraisers, Healing spaces, public meetings/plug in opportunities),

    • Sign up to be a facilitator / trainer for an existing course or the Direct action tactics 4 day micro camp.
  • Is this connected to anything larger? Will there be follow up events?
Yes! There will be organizing and mobilizing around NJNP #Stonewall50 (DC and Beyond) at the same time. Courses from the Action Camp may be used to help offset organizing/training. There may be larger mobilizing meetings happening at shared camp spaces for actions and events happening in June.
