7:00PM Resume? Help!: A skillshare & discussion on navigating job applications - SURJ DC

During this skillshare, members of the SURJ-DC Queer and Trans Working Group will share tips from our experience developing, workshopping, and reviewing resumes to help demystify the process. There is no one “right” way to put together a resume, but there are some best practices and creative strategies we can share to help folks gain confidence in presenting their experiences and skills to employers. As facilitators, we will also invite attendees to share their own experiences and challenges in navigating job applications, particularly specific challenges faced by trans POC who may attend, so that participants can share advice and lessons learned with each other. We acknowledge that our facilitators are white cisgender queer folks, and we do not have the expertise on the specific challenges faced by trans POC and sex workers in the job-seeking process. At the end of the skillshare, we’ll leave time for one-on-one questions and individual workshopping of resumes. Event Goals: The goal of the skillshare will be for participants to leave feeling more supported and confident in constructing their own resumes, and to take away some tips and strategies that are relevant for a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. We will also provide contact information for the lead facilitators so that participants can follow up with questions after the event.
