Camp Escapade
Summary
This May, No Justice No Pride will be hosting its first ever action camp, CAMP50. As part of our larger action camp NJNP will be hosting a four day long Direct Action training covering more advanced tactics and strategies you won’t learn in a typical NVDA 101 Training. This training has limited space and will build off of previous trainings and workshops that take place over the full two weeks. The primary focus of this 4 day training will be to cover the basics in using blockades and climbing for direct action. A more in-depth description of this can be found below.
We know for a lot of folks who can benefit the most from events like this often aren’t able to attend due to travel costs, admission fees. Not to mention, often the struggle for many working class, black and brown trans and queer people is needing to spend that time obtaining resources for theirs and their loved ones day to day needs; thus preventing them from being to attend. We believe that we will not be free until the most marginalized amongst us are free, and that by prioritizing solutions that support folks facing multiple intersecting forces of oppression will lead us all to liberation. There can be no pride for some of us without liberation for all of us. Most importantly, we believe that those most impacted by these issues need to be the ones calling the shots. For this reason, Camp Escapade will be limited to Trans and Queer folx from Black and Brown communities, or who are sex workers, TQ Community members who face mutliple forms of oppression, with the goal of providing stipends to Black and Brown Trans folks to attend and deepen their skills in creative resistance.

In-depth
This training has limited space and will build off of previous trainings and workshops that take place over the full two weeks. The primary focus of this 4 day training will be to cover the basics in:
-
Blockades: Participants will learn essential skills for occupying space using technical tools and their own bodies with a focus on developing skills that will be useful in their broader activist communities.
- Climbing: Participants will cover basic techniques, equipment, and procedures used by seasoned action climbers. Rope access principles, mechanical devices, and other climbing methods will be introduced. The concepts shared can be adopted by all those who integrate climbing, protest, and resistance. We will practice different scenarios involving banner deployments and aerial blockades.
We will also spend a brief amount of time on Arts and Creative Resistance where participants will learn the essential skills to make and use banners, props for use in direct action, street theater, marches, protests, etc. Since our time is limited we plan to focus a little more intensely on climbing and blockades. There will be other workshops during the longer two week period that will focus more closely on Arts and Creative Resistance.
It will not be required to do climbing for those who may be afraid of heights. We intend on having days where we split up the activities so participants who do not wish to climb can spend more time learning about blockades and vice versa.
Please RSVP in order to receive the application. We will be accepting applications up until May 22nd!
