NO JUSTICE NO PRIDE
What we built in 2018This year is nearly over and we want to shout-out all those who fought for Trans and Queer communities here in DC and beyond, because there can be no pride for some without liberation for all! Thank you for your work and for making us all a little bit more free! This year was an exciting year for our newly formed group. It was not without setbacks, but there can be no growth without struggle. Here are some of the things that we accomplished:

Our Liberation Requires Decriminalization — Debunking Sex Work Myths
Posted by Emmelia talarico · July 16, 2018 7:47 PM
The District, like most cities and states, has long had criminal penalties for consensual sexual exchange. Although widely used, such an approach has never worked – instead it only serves to harm those most vulnerable while fostering violence and exploitation. It is time for DC to take a different approach.
Trans Women engage in sex work at a rate ten times that of cisgender women and 37% of DC's trans sex workers are homeless. Street-based sex workers who are engaged in survival sex work often bear the brunt of criminalization.

#DecrimNow

Unfair laws that criminalize sex work strip people of other employment options upon conviction, bar people from housing and lead to unsafe jail conditions for trans women in the sex trade. In order to make our city safer for everyone - and marginalized communities in particular, join us in urging DC Councilmember Allen to hold a hearing on the Reducing Criminalization to Improve Community Safety and Health Amendment Act.

Reclaim Pride
Posted by Emmelia talarico · April 29, 2018 3:00 PM
For years, Capital Pride has ignored the concerns of queer, trans, Black, Latinx, and Two-Spirit communities in D.C. regarding its complicity with entities that harm LGBTQ2S people. Since March 2017, No Justice No Pride has been working to ensure that Capital Pride addresses our concerns, but time and time we have been dismissed.
Even in the current political moment - with the Trump Administration pursuing anti-immigrant, anti-trans, anti-LGBQ2S, anti-women, anti-Black, anti-Muslim, anti-poor, and pro-white supremacist policies - Capital Pride insists on continuing business as usual, ignoring the most marginalized members of our community. We MUST fight back and bring pride back to it's roots.

Blog – Capital Pride (Lack of) Progress Report 2018
Posted by Emmelia talarico · April 28, 2018 3:00 PM
Despite lip service, “community forums,” and a stated desire to work with the community, Capital Pride’s lack of substantive change extends its legacy of neglecting marginalized communities into 2018. All signs indicate that Capital Pride 2018 will once again celebrate weapons manufacturers, corrupt banks, and police departments, aligning itself with those who profit off of the oppression of the most marginalized members of our communities.
