SK Properties — Take special consideration to offers from NJNP

In less than 50 hours, the property owners of NJNP NW (also known as Tamika's House) will be closing the window to accept offers to sell. Earlier this week, it was brought to our attention the property owner intended to sell the house and since has made it very difficult for Tamika and the tenants of NJNP NW to participate in the home sale. We are working dilligently to place a competitive offer to keep Tamika housed but we need your help reminding the property owner of NJNPS value in remaining. Please sign the petition asking for the Registered Agents of SK Property and Coldwell Banker Realty to take special consideration for offers from NJNP.

To Registered Agents of SK Properties, Sherri Anne Green of Coldwell Banker Realty;

I am emailing you today in support of No Justice No Pride and am asking that the property owner and realtor take special consideration for the offer that will be placed by Tamika Spellman & NJNP between the days of 2/20/2021 and 2/21/2021 for the property at 5810 8th ST NW. In addition, we ask that you consider given Tamika Spellman more time to compile all that is needed to make that offer. We believe it is in the best interest of the community that the home stays in NJNP’s hands. Considering NJNP has never bought a house before and its leaders are doing everything they can to get all the paper work together to submit a competitive offer in a short period of time, when the offers that NJNP are competing with are by licensed investors who were marketed the property in fairness before any notification was received by tenants.

No Justice No Pride has been a bedrock for community support in DC for the past several years, and having a permanent, stable brick-and-mortar home is a longtime dream. NJNP has been focused on keeping young trans people housed, and, as COVID-19 has made the economic downturn even more severe, our capacity to begin the process of homeownership has been limited. We were thrilled to hear that Kathy Wong and Anthony Ridgeway were considering selling 5810 8th st NW. What a perfect opportunity for us to secure our dreams for homeownership without using our limited time and resources to begin an arduous search. Unfortunately, as we’ve outlined before in our communications with the landlord of the property, we have not been able to have a peaceful landlord-tenant relationship. In fact, we have documented reason to believe that the sale of the house is a retaliation against us in conflicts over necessary house repairs, and other house needs. We ask that you take this special consideration to the tenants and NJNP in good faith. Thank you for your time and consideration.
